Synopsis
Indian ethics enjoins the law of moderation in the pursuits of life. So long as this delicate balance is maintained, the even tenure of life is blessed with happiness and joy. But when tilted in the wrong direction, a chain reaction engulfs taking so many lives in its surging current.

Kashibai, the widowed mother of Naresh and Rajesh, puts more stress on the materialistic aspect of life than enlivening it with finer and nobler values of life as imminent in Indian culture.

She marries her son Naresh to Vandana, the only daughter of a millionaire in return of a handsome dowry and with the expectation that the entire wealth belonging to Vandana’s father will eventually come to her after his death. Basking in the glare of that wealth, she turns a blind eye towards Vandana, who carouses in clubs to the tunes of pop music and the jingling of wine glasses. Naresh can’t stand this but he is helpless in the face of his over-bearing mother.

Likewise, Kashibai dreamt of ruling over Rajesh, but Rajesh shatters the fond hope of his mother, thus enraging her, by marrying Geeta, the daughter of a poor school teacher. Materially poor, Geeta was rich in human values and virtues which made life whole-some and happier, if not richer in terms of money.

Kashibai fails to discern these noble qualities in Geeta. She starts torturing her by words and deeds both. Geeta, suffers all those tortures and indignities mutely and submissively with a distant hope of changing the heart of her mother-in-law. Vandana adds fuel to fire. Rajesh realizes the sufferings of Geeta but she forbides him to take any action lest it might divide the family.

But once the equilibrium in shaken, the scale starts oscillating releasing in its wake a chain of events which go on happening relentlessly, throwing everyone into the vortex of the whirlwind, shattering and breaking everything which comes in the way of it. In the end the lull descends...
