Synopsis
The first drop of rain has to burn itself out in its attempt to quench the thirst of the parched earth. The name of this raindrop was ‘Ranjeet Singh Chowdhari’, son of the improverished farmer Makhan. Apple of his mother’s eye who called him ‘Ranjeeta’ and known to his students at the village school as ‘Masterji’. But the teacher who heeded the dictates of his conscience put down the pen and picked up the gun. The raindrops that followed were Gopi the policeman, who was a victim of society’s mental slavery. There was the army jawan ’Jabar’ who considered all enemies of humanity, his personal enemies. Sumitra, the daughter of Thakur Birendra Pratap Singh, the area landlord, loved Ranjeet and his ideas but abhorred violence and bloodshed and then there was ‘Mora’ the village belle who had accepted ‘Love’ as the only god.
Together, they all traversed the parched land, put their ears to the earth and found the causes that enslaved that very earth. Thus, ensued their battle against inequality, injustice, untouchability and economic exploitation – all contributing to the mental slavery - the shackles of which still have to be broken.
